TRIBUTES have been shared across media publications and social media platforms from musicians and celebrities after Ozzy Osbourne recently passed away.
Ozzy Osbourne’s career first lifted with his first rock band, Rare Breed but shortly after he met his group ‘Black Sabbath’ who were originally called Earth Blues Company.
The name ‘Black Sabbath’ was used firstly from one of their songs until it was used as their band name- Mr Osbourne, also known as the ‘Prince of Darkness’ pursued his career in the 1970s and was the vocalist for the heavy metal band.
He was born in Birmingham but had a connection to Monmouth at Rockfield Studios due to recording music at the studio with his band, which is located just outside of Monmouth in the Wye Valley.
Two brothers, Kingsley and Charles Ward started the studios in the 1960s, they were farmers before turning their property into a music studio.
They built a studio in the attic of their farmhouse and started recording as making music was something they wanted to do.
The studio is known for creating some of the first heavy metal music, Mr Osbourne came back to the studio years later to work on his solo albums as well.
Producing music in the studio became increasingly popular and has been used by other well-known artists such as: Queen, Coldplay and Oasis.
Owner of Rockfield Studies, Kingsley Ward said: : “It was with deep sadness that we at Rockfield Studios heard of the passing of Ozzy Osbourne. He was a good friend of the studios and in 1968 his group, Black Sabbath, was the first heavy metal band to use the studios.”
“They set a trend for all subsequent heavy metal bands to follow. As a great character he will be missed by all who knew him and especially by his many music fans across the world. Rest in peace Ozzy from all of your friends here at Rockfield Studios.”
Mr. Osbourne continued his career solo and from 1980 until 2022 after the heavy metal band split, he released 13 albums including one of his most successful albums, Blizzard of Oz.
In a statement Ozzy Osbourne’s family contributed on X, said: “It is with more sadness than more words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love.”
In relation to Mr Osbourne’s connection to Monmouth, his group Black Sabbath had connections to Abergavenny, where they were writing and rehearsing for their album, ‘Master of Reality’ in 1971.
At the time they rehearsed and practiced the songs in this album in a cottage on The Deri which is a mountain near Abergavenny.
Alongside his career in the music industry, Mr Osbourne featured in many television shows, including: The Osbournes, Ozzy and Jack’s World and The Osbournes want to believe.
Mr Osbournes career in the arts flourished, having won many awards for his music, earning a star on the Hollywood Walk of fame.
