CONCERNS have been raised over the collection of debris under the Wye Bridge in Monmouth.

The annual problem resulted in a crane clearing the area last year.

Rob Lane, operations delivery team leader for Natural Resources Wales said: "We want to reassure people that our experts are closely monitoring the build-up of debris in the River Wye under the Monmouth Bridge to make sure it does not pose a flood risk to local homes and businesses.

"We are liaising with Monmouthshire Council and have a contractor in place to remove the debris.

"It's important that the conditions in the river are safe enough for the work to take place, but we hope to have the debris cleared next week."

Speaking last Wednesday (11th February), Monmouth Assembly Member Nick Ramsey said: "These complaints come in the wake of similar problems at Skenfrith, where NRW took prompt action to clear the bridge in response to my complaint
