Ross Seniors kick-started their 2009 season with a customary 3 Clubs & Putter 16 hole stableford competition and 42 members braved the early morning frosty conditions and unpredictable temporary greens.

Not a problem though for Richard Nightingale, who playing his first event in the Senior's category, produced a remarkable 40 points stableford round, and by far the highest points score ever remembered in the history of this annual Ross Seniors event.

Not only did he take the first prize but also carried away all the 2's Club kitty money, being the only player that day to score a birdie at one of the par 3 holes. Quite a feat!

Ken Vowles with an equally impressive 36 points score was runner-up, Fred Stott with 34 points took the third prize and there were subsidiary prizes for Keith Ray, Eric Stephens and John Hebdon who all carded 34 points each.

In the absence of Ross Seniors Captain, Patrick Curtis, currently enjoying a cruise in the Caribbean, Ross Seniors Secretary Keith Ray presented the prizes and thanked Ross Club Caterer Ivor de Lloyd and his team for the excellent and somewhat appropriate Caribbean Hot-pot lunch enjoyed by everyone afterwards. Members can look forward to another similar Caribbean experience organised for their next Winter Competition, a popular Yellow Ball team event scheduled for Wednesday February 18th.
