SIR,
RW Bradley should be aware that, far from lacking relevance to the residents of Monmouthshire, there is actually a significant increase in the use of Welsh in the county.
A 2011 government endorsed census (see walesonline.co.uk) identified that Welsh speakers are migrating to Monmouthshire from the predominant Welsh speaking areas of our country. I am one of those Welsh 'immigrants' to Monmouth that has enabled the proportion of Welsh speakers within the Drybridge Ward to rise by 55 per cent in a decade.
RW Bradley believes the Welsh Government 'neither know nor care' about the costs of the Language Scheme. Yet an internet search will easily find evidence of budgets and myriad attempts to reduce costs.
RW Bradley should seek out the Welsh Audit Office Disclosure Log; it shows the Welsh Language Scheme budget in full, took about three minutes to find, and is written in plain English. More importantly it will also reveal to him/her the political objectives of the scheme. I hope this will remove the paranoia that he/ she will be legally forced by a group of fanatics to speak Welsh in the future. However, noting his/ her poor spelling of Owain Glyndwr I would welcome even a rudimentary understanding of the Welsh language.
