SIR,
Deposited at the One Stop Shop is the Preliminary Infrastructure Feasibility Report for the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG)/ Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) plans for development and houses at Wonstow Road.
For anyone remotely interested in Monmouth's enviromental and financial future, under scrutiny the report attempts to conceal some alarming facts.
In every area, particulary flooding, access, sewerage and water provision, the facts on the ground are totally misrepresented by the conclusions that are reached in the summary.
In fact, in terms of water provision, the case is so bad that water is not mentioned at all.
This is not totally surprising as the report was commisioned by the owners of the site, WAG, and submitted on behalf of MCC.
The council themselves are obliged to demonstate that the site at Wonastow Road, quoted from their own advisory notes, "can be demonstrably shown to be safeguarded from flooding... and that the necessary drainage and water supply will be delivered".
In this, they have demonstrably failed.
The estimated costs are already scary, but then Monmouth can afford to pay the price, can't it?
Monmouth's One Stop Shop is doing its bit to save, by refusing to give or sell a photocopy to members of the public. Bravo.
Will other interested bodies please read it?
