A special ceremony was held on Sunday (28th June) remembering the 70th anniversary of the death of Violette Szabó GC in Ravensbruck concentration camp.
Rosemary Rigby MBE has dedicated a museum to Violette in the house where the Special Operations Executive (SOE) agent spent her time between her two missions in France.
Violette's story was told in the 1958 film Carve Her Name With Pride, starring Virginia McKenna. The actress joins the gathering every year, along with ex-servicemen and civic leaders including a representative from Monmouth Town Council and members of the public.
The remembrance service was attended by 11 members of the Hannie Schaft Group of Scouts from Haarlem, The Netherlands. Hannie Schaft was a Dutch communist resistance fighter executed by the Germans two weeks before the liberation of Holland.
If anyone would like to know more about the museum, call Rosemary Rigby on 01981 540477.
