NEW figures released have shown Monmouthshire as being one of the best UK regions for using solar power.

The Eco Experts, a leading solar panel comparison site, has revealed the best and worst UK regions for going solar in 2015.

The map revealed that the Welsh are leading the way in adapting to a greener lifestyle with the highest number of solar panel installations in the UK.

Monmouthshire has some of the most impressive solar statistics across the nation where there have been 740 solar installations per 10,000 households.

Jon Whiting of the Eco Experts said: "Since 2010 the average cost of solar panels has significantly decreased.

"This has had a huge impact on the number of installations across the nation – the UK is now leading the way in Europe for implementing solar power solutions. "Our findings are testament to the success of the Feed-in Tariff which, despite suffering major cutbacks this year, has made solar an appealing option to homeowners across the country.

"Solar victories in some of the UK's less affluent regions show that incentivising the public with subsidies has been a real triumph in our quest to live greener."
