THE ROYAL Monmouthshire Royal Engineers (RMRE) Militia have acted to make the Inglis bridge from Osbaston into Vauxhall Camp safer for pedestrians and cyclists after reading a letter sent to the Beacon.
Jean Francis sent the letter entitled ‘A word of warning’ (11th November) after she fell off her bike when it skidded on the slippery wooden surface of the bridge.
Captain Simon Gaskell, Adjutant of the RMREs, said: “The Regiment noticed the letter in the Beacon Letters page. Although the Regiment has no liability with regards to use of the bridge, we were able to lay some slip resistant sheeting along the bridge this morning (Friday 13th) in order to reduce the risk of slipping as a good will gesture to the local community.”
Jean Francis responded via the Beacon yesterday (17th November): “Thank you to the army for the quick response to my letter concerning the dangerous condition of the surface of Vauxhall Bridge. The problem has been solved. Walkers and cyclists can now cross over in safety.”
