THE sword swallower who attempted to set two world records for pulling a vehicle with a swallowed sword may have to wait weeks for his attempt to be verified.
El Lurchio, real name Ian Brown, attempted to set the world records for heaviest vehicle pulled by a swallowed sword and farthest vehicle pull with a swallowed sword in Chepstow last week.
He pulled a vehicle weighing 2,012kg a total of 54.8 metres, potentially breaking the previous record of 1696.44kg and setting an all new record for the distance.
It was a herculean effort but surprisingly the weight wasn’t biggest problem. He said: “Having the weight on the sword wasn’t particularly comfortable, but it wasn’t the worst part about it, the worst part was keeping the sword down for the time it took for the distance record.”
Mr Brown has been sword swallowing for seven years and came up with the idea for his latest attempt while performing at the National Diving and Activity Centre.
He said: I was performing with Circus of Horrors at FearFest-Evil at the National Diving and Activity Centre for the three weekends leading up to Hallowe’en, I saw the hearse they had for the event and suggested the record attempt for next year if they had us back.
“I then figured we’d have enough time to get it arranged for Hallowe’en, so I suggested it.”
He had seen Ryan Stock, a Canadian sword swallower set the record a number of years ago and had attempted to break it before but some of the evidence was missing.
There was not a Guinness World Records adjudicator at his latest attempt but they followed guidelines to record all the evidence required.
The evidence for both of the records will now carefully reviewed by the Guinness World Records.
