The BBC clearly has a positive role in promoting the arts and supporting music festivals, such as the Proms.

The BBC World Service has probably never been more important.

Closer to home though I am less supportive.

The BBC seems mired in institutional “wokeism”, never challenging fashionable orthodoxies and elevating opinion over truth.

It demands money from those who never use its services – the licence being a poll tax in all but name.

If the BBC is as good as its advocates claim it has nothing to fear from a subscription service.
