MORE than £1,500 was raised for Raglan Church's Raise the Roof campaign at a curry and quiz evening held at Raglan Parc Golf Club last Saturday (13th September). Hosted by Monmouth Assembly Member Nick Ramsay, more than 90 people took part in a quiz which tested their knowledge on a wide range of trivia – from TV and film to cathedrals and castles. It was a close call between the top teams before Knights on the Tiles emerged the clear winners, with Heavens Above! awarded the prize for the best team name. The eagerly awaited raffle was another highlight of the evening, with top prizes including £200 in cash, two First Class train tickets and a TV/ DVD combi. The money raised from the event brings the total raised since the campaign was launched last October to £8,500 – the committee are hoping to reach a target of £10,000 by the end of the year. Raise the Roof campaigner Beverley Jones thanked everyone who donated prizes, bought raffle rickets and supported the event in any way. Her thanks were echoed by Mr Ramsay, who said the evening had been a great success but there was still a long way to go – the total cost of the roof repair is £400,000. "I am looking forward to a busy diary of events to raise money for this beautiful church," he said. Raise the roof calendars of Raglan Past and Present will be available shortly and future events include a Wedding Dress Exhibition in the church from Friday 17th to Sunday 19th October and a coffee morning in November.
