Worried parents have contacted the Beacon about a incident last Tuesday (12th November), when a minibus was in collision with a car.

Information from the police indicated there were no children on the minibus at the time of the incident, but parents have spoken out that this is not the case.

The minibus was a Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) contracted vehicle, route number 162, travelling from the Maypole area in the north of the county, conveying school pupils to Monmouth Comprehensive School.

According to one parent, a number of children had glass in their hair and subsequently were referred to A&E by the school nurse.

One of the concerns another parent had was that the procedure for the reporting of the incident was not properly followed; her daughter was left feeling quite poorly and was kept off school.

Subsequently, MCC issued this statement: "A minibus owned by Phillips Transport and operating on behalf of Monmouthshire County Council was involved in a traffic incident at approximately 8.10am on Tuesday 12th November when a vehicle travelling behind collided with it.

"The incident occurred on the A449 north of the Gibraltar tunnels and close to Monmouth Rowing Club.

"The minibus was transporting Monmouth Comprehensive School students from the Maypole and Rockfield areas.

"All 10 youngsters in the minibus were removed from the vehicle and taken to the school in one of the council's minibuses which was passing at the time.

"They were later assessed by the school nurse and advised to seek treatment where applicable.

"The police are currently investigating the incident."

At the time of going to press, the Beacon was unable to contact the police officers on duty at the time of the collision.
