A FILM of director and Portskewett resident Keri Collins has reached a large new audience after being picked up by Netflix.
‘Convenience’ was released in 2015 and follows the story of two hapless criminals as they try to rob a convenience store.
The pair are forced to run the store, alongside its attendant, as they wait overnight for the store’s safe to open.
It features performances from Ray Panthaki and Adeel Akhtar as the robbers while ‘This is England’ star Vicky McClure plays the attendant.
Being picked up by Netflix is an exceptional result for Mr Collins and the film, but one he was aiming for. He said: “It was really exciting, We said from the first moment with such a small budget it was the best place get picked up.
“It was never going to reach a huge audience otherwise and now its alongside other films.”
Netflix provides a great platform for smaller filmmakers to be seen and find a tailored audience.
Mr Collins said: “I think Netflix is brilliant that way, it’s a far more demographic way of finding an audience. I don’t know how many views it has had but it’s been rated four stars so it’s finding that audience.
“There are not many of us in Wales making films in Wales at the moment…. so it’s great for any film that is made here to get out there”.
Mr Collins is now moving on to more projects including TV directing and some more films which are in the development stages.
