The 8th annual Kymin Dash organised by Spirit Of Monmouth was due to take place this month and due to the pandemic the event has been postponed for a second year.
It is now in the diary for Sunday April 10 2022.
The event has grown year on year with the last few years selling out.
It has become a popular event on the racing calendar for runners across the South West to take on the challenging run up to The Roundhouse.
The charity the race had planned to support in 2020 and 2021 was the Velindre Cancer Centre and organisers say they are really pleased to confirm the Running Club has been able to make a donation of £1,000 to the charity which has been matched by Barclays.
Since the race was resurrected by the local running club back in 2013, the running club has now supported eight local charities. In that time the club has been in the position of donating £8,500 with an additional generous contribution from Barclays Bank the employer of the race director Emma King.
This takes the total that has been donated to £15,750 with the club aiming to donate in excess of £20,000 to charities by the time the 10th anniversary of the race arrives .
The donation will ensure that the Velindre Cancer Centre can continue their excellent work.
Any money raised will also help the centre by supporting them through the coronavirus pandemic as fundraising activities have been badly impacted. This means it is now, more than ever, that the centre needs to raise vital funds to support their patients and families dealing with cancer in Wales.
Stuart Penny, club chairman from Spirit Of Monmouth Running Club would like to thank all involved with the Kymin Dash over the years making it so successful and of course to their ‘fantastic sponsors’ who continue to support the event.
Stuart will be the race director for the 2022 event.
Special mention to Emma King’s employer Barclays Bank for matching the £1000 donated and for their on-going support since 2013, and to her colleague Sue Clarke for her involvement with the raffle.
