COUNCILLOR Chris Munslow, a well-known face in scouting circles, has been appointed mayor of Monmouth.

His appointment was made at Monday night’s town council AGM following Cllr Graham Pritchard’s tribute to Proper Officer Jane Lloyd, who has helped him through his mayoral term of office the past 12 months.

“It has been a challenging, eventful and enjoyable time as mayor,” he said. Turning to Mrs Lloyd he added, “I don’t know how you managed. Your work has been gratefully appreciated”.

He spoke of the progress made with the new website and the eventful year with two Freedom Parades: “It has been a pleasure and an honour to serve the town and the council throughout the county, with around 100 events a year, it has been a big commitment.”

The former mayor thanked former mace bearer Mike Brown and current mace bearers John Blake and Caroline Bright for keeping him on the “straight and narrow”.

He also thanked his consort Jill Woodroffe for the support she has given him for his term of office.

After being elected unanimously to the role, Cllr Munslow paid tribute to his predecessor and said that he was grateful, honoured and privileged and promised to do his best “in true scouting spirit” for the people of Monmouth.

His three chosen charities for the coming 12 months are; RNLI; Wyesham Scouts and Guides and the special needs unit at Overmonnow School.

His consort for the term of office is his wife, Dorothy Munslow.

Cllr Jane Gunter was appointed deputy mayor.
