PLAID Cymru Welsh Assembly candidate Jonathan Clark has said that change needs to come ‘from the bottom up’ when it comes to local politics, while announcing that he will not stand for election again in Monmouth constituency.
Clark, who admitted that the campaign for the Monmouth constituency seat had been a tiring one, was positive about his party’s prospects.
However he declined to comment about rumors of a coalition between Welsh Labour and Plaid Cymru, insisting that his thoughts are solely on his own campaign.
“We have come into this optimistically; ultimately we will be happier to get more votes than we had last time.
“We have spent weeks knocking on doors, getting to know people.
“I have fought in this constituency five times and we have always managed to find Plaid voters.
“I’m tired, dehydrated and my feet hurt- I have walked nine kilometres a day but I’ve got good team to get the troops motivated and focused on the straight and narrow.”
Clark revealed exclusively to the Beacon that he will not stand for election in the Monmouth constituency after this election.
“I’ve got more than a few campaigns left in me, but not in this constituency.
“Its time for some new, younger blood to come in.”
