A TORY campaign group has apologised to Monmouth’s MP after comments that were made on social media.

MP David Davies became embroiled in a row on social media with LGBT+, the officially-affiliated Conservative lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans group, which accused the MP of having “transphobic views” which were “abhorrent and out of kilter with Conservative Party policy” after he said on social media that a person possessing a “penis

and pair of testicles is definitely not a woman”.

The group added: “It’s clear that the T in his name stands for transphobe. It’s equally clear what the C stands for.”

Mr Davies’s reply to the group, which is based in Tory HQ, was that his “transphobic” view is that having a penis makes you male and duly reported the group to the chairman of the Conservative Party, Brandon Lewis MP.

Yesterday morning (30th January) the group apologised and David Davies MP told the Beacon he was surprised his comment seemed to be controversial.

“In a discussion about transgender issues I offered the opinion that it is not possible to be a woman if you are in possession of male genitalia,” he said. “To my surprise this seems to be a controversial statement these days with many people angrily saying that you can indeed be a woman if you have a penis. Be that as it may, I am entitled to my opinion and I was appalled that a group based in Conservative HQ responded with a joke about my initials TC which they implied stood for ‘transphobic c***’.

“Only last week the Conservative Party quite rightly spoke out about abuse on social media but it seems some of our own employees are guilty of it. I complained to the party chairman and the group has now apologised.

“Men and women are entitled to a measure of privacy in certain situations such as in hospitals, prisons, in changing rooms and so on.

“Now some people in the major political parties want to tear up this right to privacy in the name of ‘transgender rights’. I find it very worrying.”
