CONCERNS from residents living in Monmouth and Trellech Grange about their poor and non-existent broadband are being directed to the Welsh Government.
Residents of Trellech Grange have been able to voice their concerns directly to Welsh Government’s minister for skills and science, Julie James AM while those living on the Rockfield Estate are calling for the government to act on their patchy broadband service.
Mrs James attended a meeting organised by Monmouth AM Nick Ramsay this month to listen to the residents’ problems with their landlines and the absence of superfast broadband in their area.
Speaking about the meeting Mr Ramsay said: “This proved to be an excellent meeting. Local residents were very pleased the Minister found time to come to hear their views about the poor broadband service they receive.
“I am contributing to the superfast broadband consultation to support constituents in the area in the hope they will be part of the Next Generation Access Broadband infrastructure roll-out due to the level of demand in the area.”
Then this week Mr Ramsay attended a meeting with those living on Rockfield Estate after which he commented: “While some houses on the estate have speeds of up to 80 megabytes, their neighbours are only getting two.
“These low speeds make it impossible for parents to work whilst their children are watching TV or using tablets.
“I fully appreciate the frustration of local residents, particularly those with young families trying to work from home. There’s absolutely no reason why coverage should be so patchy.
“I hope the Welsh Government will look into this problem as a matter of urgency and will press BT for a resolution.”
