WELSH Conservative candidate Martin Brady was elected as the new Chepstow town councillor for the St Kingsmark ward after a by-election on Thursday 18th January.
Mr Brady will replace former Independent councillor Lia Hind.
It was a convincing victory for Mr Brady who finished ahead of Welsh Labour candidate Alyson Ayland and Independent candidates Ian Mills and Oliver Spurway.
Mr Brady sent his appreciation to the voters in the St Kingsmark Ward.
He said: “I would like to thank everyone who voted in the St Kingsmark Ward by-election for playing their part in local democracy and for engaging in the election of a new town councillor.
“I especially thank those who gave their support to me as the successful Conservative candidate, which was tremendous, and I commit to doing my best for everyone in the conduct of the office. With 256 votes (54.4 per cent) the result was emphatic and I warmly appreciate the personal endorsement.”
Of the remaining candidates Alyson Ayland received 106 votes, Oliver Spurway received 67 and Ian Mills received 41.
There was only one rejected ballot paper and the turnout was 20.6 per cent.
