Indy Monmouth candidate Emma Bryn won a convincing victory in last Thursday’s Wyesham by-election and will take the place of retiring Indy councillor Jess Stephens for the Wyesham ward of Monmouth Town Council.

Welsh Labour’s candidate Lyn Tanner pushed the Welsh Tory group into third place with her 138 votes, still some 63 votes behind Emma.

Independent candidate Chris Were brought up the rear with 15 votes.

This still leaves the Conservatives with the most councillors with six, although the recent Drybridge and now Wyesham by-elections have given INDY Monmouth a total of five candidates, three Independent councillors and one each for Labour and the Liberal Democrats.

Turnout was 29 per cent.

Emma said: "I’m so happy that people took the trouble to come out and place their vote, I am aware that people are a little fed up with politics at the moment and think that one vote will not make a change, but I really believe, especially on such a local level, that voting is an important part of citizenship and is a crucial part of democracy, it allows us all to take control of our own little part of the planet. I would like to thank everyone for voting, and I promise I will do my best to live up to your expectations."

Emma will officially become councillor for Wyesham Ward following the full Town Council meeting on 29th April. Emma joins other INDY councillors Kelly Jackson-Graham, Ken Breeze, Claudia Blair and Rachel Jupp.
