Police in Monmouth are warning parents about the dangers of a highly toxic drug linked to a number of violent offences in the town.

Diazepam, also known as valium, is coming to the UK from Thailand and Vietnam in large quantities and the little blue pills have a street value of about £2 a tablet.

Monmouth officers have confiscated a number of tablets but have no idea what they contain other than the drug.

"The last batch we had analysed did contain some diazepam but there are also a lot of impurities," said Police Sergeant Dick Bull.

The drug, if taken with an amount of alcohol, is known to make normally placid people extremely violent.
