A small but historic piece of Monmouth's Shire Hall has been found by police.

The 300-year-old military baton held by the statue of Henry V was stolen two weeks ago.

Police Sergeant Dick Bull handed over the oak baton to Monmouth Town Clerk Sue James yesterday (Tuesday 1st May), after officers tracked it down over the bank holiday weekend.

Sergeant Bull said: "We proactively sought it, and our enquiries led us to an individual, who is now helping with enquiries.
