A WYESHAM play area is currently undergoing a £75,000 upgrade.

Work at the Tudor Road play area in Monmouth began this week, with new play items, safety surfacing and fencing coming largely from section 106 monies that were allocated in 2014 with the remaining £5,000 coming from other sources.

A total of £439,555 of grant money was allocated from the Croft y Bwla (£106,428), Almshouses (£37,490) and former Wyesham Infants School (£189,228) development sites in Monmouth two years ago. Of this, £70,000 was awarded to Wyesham Play Project for a new play area.

Commercial and Operations Manager at Monmouthshire County Council Nigel Leaworthy said: “Following an approach from a local residents’ group we’re installing new equipment worth £75,000 to upgrade the play area. The play area is mostly funded via section 106 monies. Works have commenced with an aggregated surface installed in readiness for the installation of the play items, safety surfacing and fencing.

“Among the new items are a multi-frame unit, swings and a see-saw. In addition, we’re re-installing an existing swing because of its historical value.”
