For Monmouth’s part in Plastic Free July, I invite all Beacon readers to do a quick experiment: Look in your bin and 1: Think about the source of the plastic there, both in terms of its manufacture from fossil fuels (99% of the makeup of plastic) and how it ended up in your bin; 2: Think about where the contents goes, and the lasting effects of these; 3: Commit to shopping differently so that your bin doesn’t need emptying as often.

Much of the plastic that fills our bins -which we pay through our council tax and business rates to have removed- can be avoided.

Plastic Free Monmouth will be at the Monmouthshire Show, and we’ll be happy to discuss ways to consume and throw away less plastic.
