A PROPOSAL to put new homes in Raglan on ground opposite the school is attracting opposition from village residents.
Richborough Estates is in the process of bringing forward plans for 111 new one to four bedroom homes on land south of Monmouth Road.
35 per cent of the homes will be affordable housing, with access onto the Monmouth Road, just above the cemetery. Features will include a high quality landscape scheme with the retention of existing trees and hedges, as well as a community orchard and new children’s play opportunities.
Developers maintain there will be a sustainable drainage system with features suitable for wildlife, and financial contributions towards community facilities, education and the proposed new community hub.
However, locals expressed concerns at a public consultation yesterday (13th February) with the land promotion company, citing the new school built only a few years ago, had very few spaces available and the doctors surgery was not equipped for such a large influx of new home-owners.
One resident who declined to be named said that if the separate plan for another 45 houses behind the doctors surgery went ahead, the village would be “swamped”.
Access out of the village was also a major concern with some as the cars wishing to get out would either have to go left through the village, or right onto the already dangerous junction with the bypass.
The plan is too large and the school is not built for that number of people” said one resident. Another said that it had been calculated that there would be an extra 25 infant and junior children and that there would not be any space at the school.
