A HOUSING development in Pwllmeyric containing 17 new homes has been approved by Monmouthshire County Council (MCC).

The outline application for the development was passed by the MCC planning committee on Tuesday (7th March) but more detailed plans will come before the committee in the future.

They will include details of the layout, scale and appearance of the building(s), and the landscaping of the site

The development is located on the land north west of Pentwyn Close which is accessed via the A48.

County Councillor for Shirenewton Graham Down supported the proposal but raised concerns about some of the details which will return to the planning committee.

He said: “This site is in the local development plan and as far as I’m concerned the principal of development has been already agreed.”

Cllr Down highlighted issues which he believed needed to be considered before the final approval.

He contended existing access was not wide enough, that Pentwyn Close should not be covered in vegetation, that sewerage problems in the area needed to be addressed and that there was a lack of access to the south side of the A48, where most of the area’s facilities lie.

However, highway and development manager Mark Davies said: “The applicant has demonstrated they can provide a 4.8m carriageway which is more than enough. I have no doubt the access as detailed is more than enough.”
