Motorists across Monmouthshire are being advised to plan ahead later this month as a series of temporary road closures are introduced to allow utility repairs, water infrastructure works and telecommunications projects to be carried out safely.

Monmouthshire County Council has issued several temporary traffic regulation notices affecting roads in Little Mill, Shirenewton, Monmouth and Cwmcarvan during November 2026.

One of the first closures will affect the R76 road from Mitchel Troy Road to Penrhos Road in Cwmcarvan on Thursday, November 12, with works scheduled between 8am and 5pm. The closure is required to facilitate poling works.

The affected section extends for approximately 0.95km from its junction with Mitchel Troy Road. A signed diversion will direct traffic via Mitchel Troy Road, Lower Raglan Road, Trecastle Road and Pentre Road.

A second closure is planned for A472 Berthon Road at Little Mill on Sunday, November 15, between 9am and 2pm.

Wales & West Utilities will be carrying out repair works, requiring a section of the road around 475 metres west of Millbrook Court to be closed for approximately 45 metres. Traffic will be diverted via the A4042, A40, A449 and A472.

From Monday, November 16 until Tuesday, November 17, the C61.1 Shirenewton to Rhewl Farm road will be closed between 9.30am and 3.30pm each day to allow BT cabling and poling works to take place.

The closure will extend for around 0.95km from its junction with Spout Hill. A diversion route will operate via Crick Road and the A48. The council said reasonable access will be maintained for properties along the affected stretch wherever possible.

Another closure beginning on Monday, November 16 will affect Goldwire Lane in Monmouth. Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water works are expected to continue until Wednesday, November 18.

The closure will cover a short section of the lane near its junction with Somerset Road, with traffic diverted via Somerset Road, Wonastow Road and Drybridge Street.

The notices follow earlier temporary closures on Sudbrook Road, Sudbrook, and Green Street, Chepstow, which were implemented to allow water connection and poling works respectively.

Monmouthshire County Council has reminded motorists that anyone ignoring restrictions imposed under a temporary traffic regulation order may be committing an offence under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
