A series of temporary road closures across Monmouthshire are set to affect several rural communities throughout August, as the County Council confirms multiple orders issued under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

The closures, which enable essential works ranging from water connections to tree maintenance, will each be supported by signed diversion routes and will maintain reasonable access for residents living along the affected stretches.

The first closure, already in force, affects a section of the R84 Road between Ty Du Road and Nex Common in Devauden. The order is expected to remain active until 20 August, though it may legally continue for up to 18 months if required.

The works, carried out by Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water, require a closure of roughly 115 metres of road, located around 160 metres from its junction with Glyn Farm Road. Traffic is being redirected via the B4293 and Glyn Farm Road.

Meanwhile, a second closure is underway at Weyloed Lane in Mynnyddbach, where cabling and tree works are scheduled to run between 17 and 21 August.

The lane is closed for approximately 60 metres from its junction with the B4235 Usk Road, with daily working hours between 9.30am and 3.30pm. Diversions are operating via Ditch Hill Lane and Old School Hill.

Looking ahead, a more extensive closure is planned for Bargain Wood Road in Cleddon, beginning on 24 August. Tree works will require the road to close between Ninewells Road and Trellech Cross—a stretch of around 1.3km—until 28 August, with works running from 9am to 5pm.

The diversion route will take drivers through Llandogo Road, several R92 links, Back Road, Catbrook Road and Ninewells Road.

Another upcoming closure will affect R82 Gaerllwyd Farm to Gethley Road in Newchurch from 19 to 21 August. Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water will be installing a new water connection, requiring a 175‑metre closure from the junction with Gethley Road.

A lengthy diversion route has been mapped through Devauden Court, the B4293, multiple R80 links, the B4235 and R81.

Finally, on 24 August, a one‑day closure will take place at R42 Beiliau Wood to Pen Yr Heol, operating between 8am and 4pm. Water works will close a 250‑metre section near Waste Road, with diversions via Bryngwyn Road and Raglan Road.

All orders carry the standard legal warning: anyone contravening the restrictions may be guilty of an offence under Section 16(1) of the Act.
