Drivers in Monmouthshire are being advised to plan ahead as a series of temporary road closures and traffic restrictions are scheduled across the county in October 2026 to allow tree safety, telecommunications and highway works to be carried out.

The largest closure will affect Bargain Wood Road in Llandogo, where Monmouthshire County Council intends to close a 1.35km section of road east of its junction with Trellech Road.

The closure is scheduled to run from Monday, October 12 to Friday, October 16, operating daily between 9am and 5pm, to enable tree safety works to be undertaken.

During the closure, motorists will be diverted via Trellech Road, the A466, Llandogo Road and Craig-Las Road. The council said reasonable access for properties along the affected route will be maintained where possible.

Elsewhere, Bully Hole Road in Earlswood is set to close on Thursday, October 8, between 8am and 5pm, for utility poling works.

The closure will affect a 55m stretch around 275m from its junction with the B4235 Usk Road. A signed diversion will be in place via the B4235 and Little Coed Llifos.

Further poling works will take place on R90 Hoop Road to Pilstone House in Whitebrook on Tuesday, October 13, operating between 8am and 5pm.

The temporary closure will affect a 215m section approximately 2km east of its junction with New Mill Road. Drivers will be directed along a lengthy diversion route via Bigsweir Bridge, the A466, Forge Road, the B4293 and surrounding local roads.

Meanwhile, BT fibre installation works are planned on the R94 Llanishen to Tintern Cross road at Trellech Grange on Friday, October 9, between 9.30am and 3.30pm.

The closure will affect a 350m section of road near Gethley Road, with a signed diversion route taking traffic through Trellech, Catbrook, Whitelye and Tintern.

The latest notices follow orders already made by the council for works earlier in the month. Chapel Lane in Pwllmeyric was temporarily closed on Thursday, October 1, between 9.30am and 3.30pm, for cabling and gully works, while traffic operatives assisted residents with access.

In addition, a temporary traffic regulation order introduced a speed limit reduction on the R106 Cwrt Bleddyn Hotel to Dowlais Brook road in Llangybi on Tuesday, October 6.

The measure reduced the speed limit from 60mph to 40mph on a 470m stretch of road to allow MJ Quinn poling works to be carried out safely using temporary traffic signals.
