IT?can be confirmed this week that the controversial development on Monmouth’s Dixton Road has been amended and will be submitted within the next few weeks.

The Beacon can reveal that there will not be a McDonald’s burger chain included in the amended plan.

The 2013 application (DC/2013/01071), which is still current, caused huge controversy when it was revealed that among the businesses included in the plan was a McDonald’s.

David Cummings, Chairman of Monmouth and District Chamber of Trade and Commerce said: “Last week’s Beacon headline that McDonald’s was still looking for a site in Monmouth was taken by some readers to suggest that they still had an interest in the Dixton roundabout retail development site. I have spoken to MCC Planning Office about this and can confirm that there will be no McDonald’s on the new plans of the Dixton development when they are submitted. If McDonald’s seek a highly visible site like the new Llanfoist one then it seems unlikely they will find another suitable site in or around Monmouth”
