FOUR panels depicting the history of Monmouth have been given the thumbs up by Monmouthshire County Council’s (MCC) planning committee.
Three of the four panels are already in situ with the final panel to be situated at Harts, Monmouth. An existing panel will also be moved from The Robin Hood Inn to the toilet block adjacent to Monnow Bridge.
As the panels were already fitted, the application sought retrospective planning permission.
Monmouth and District Chamber of Trade and Commerce has been involved in the project since its conceptual phase of development and has received great support from residents and visitors.
Chairman of the chamber, David Cummings, said: “The panels have proved very popular with visitors and locals alike.
“The Chamber of Commerce wholeheartedly supports this application and sees it as an example of how the business community can work together with MCC and use funds tailored for the purpose of providing something of great importance for visitors and residents alike”.
MCC’s planning committee offered their support for the panels. Councillor Alan Whintle said: “I agree with David [Cummings].
“These panels have been a long time coming and they give visitors some insight into the history of the town itself”.
Councillor Bob Hayward agreed: “I endorse the plans. Anything that encourages visitors to enjoy the town is important”.
