Three Usk women are getting set to go the extra mile for charity this month as they prepare to lose their locks to raise money.

Kay Peacock, Rachel Drago and Victoria Boxhall have been re-named the Pink Ladies after dying their hair last week in preparation for the big event, which will be held on 19th October from 4pm.

The women will be raising money for Breast Cancer Care and St Davids Hospice when they hold a raffle and lose their hair at The New Court Hotel in Usk. Sponsorship forms can be collected from each of the women and raffle tickets will be on offer including prizes of meals, hotel stays and even helicopter and tank rides.

The occasion has been planned to mark the anniversary of Rachel's fourth year in remission, after suffering from breast cancer and losing her hair to chemotherapy in 2009.

"I lost my hair years ago, and this time I'm shaving it off out of choice.

"The amazing thing is, I dyed my hair last week, and in that time I have treated 25 people in my job as a nurse who have asked me why my hair is pink, and that is 25 people who are going to go home and check themselves for cancer.

"This is a very positive thing to do, even if it is a little off the wall!"

Kay Peacock, pictured, is Usk Primary School's resident lolly pop lady and hopes her place in the community will raise much awareness of the challenge.

"We're all really excited," said Kay. "It is such a high doing this together.

"It isn't a huge deal. My hair grows back, it's not as if I'm going to die from it."

This is not the first time Kay has said goodbye to her hair, as she rallied friends of Rachel together four years ago to face the chop and raise money.

The fourth member of the group, Rhiannon Jones, is organising the night and has been described by Rachel as "absolutely instrumental" in bringing in the exciting raffle prizes.

The women have so far raised hundreds but they are aiming to at least match their last efforts, which totalled around £4,000.
