MONMOUTHSHIRE County Council (MCC) is inviting feedback from the public about alterations to Monmouth’s main street.
Known locally as the ‘pinch point’, an extension has been built to the pavement on both sides of Monnow Street in an attempt to improve the safety of pedestrians, giving them more room away from the road.
The measure is described as a trial by Monmouthshire County Council, as well as new rules to stop cars from turning right out of St John’s Street.
MCC’s Traffic & Network Manager Paul Keeble said: “The trial currently running in Monnow Street is a proactive approach to improving pedestrian safety in the area between Agincourt Street and St John’s Street.
“We will monitor the experimental system in Monnow Street with the aid of CCTV cameras and feedback from the public. We intend to vary conditions from time to time to discover what system works best so consequently we have not indicated a specific date for the length of the trial but our findings will be kept under review.
“We very much welcome feedback from the community so we invite residents, businesses and organisations to write to us or comment on our Monmouthshire Roadworks Facebook page. Any comments received will be taken into account when the council makes a decision on this matter.”
