Picture of the week: Ferneyhough’s Bakery (Wigmore’s Bakery)

Pictured is what’s today known as Wigmore’s Bakery, but then known as Ferneyhough’s Bakery. The bakery was sold to Mr Wigmore, who was Mr Ferneyhough’s foreman. After the sale Ferneyhough opened an iron mongers on Priory Street.

Also pictured is Mr Ferneyhough's son (young boy in the hat) who later opened a sweet shop on Church which some Beacon readers may remember. Young apprentice Leonard Powell can also be seen in the photograph who later went off to fight in World War One.

As with last week's picture of the week, readers are invited to guess the year. Guesses can be sent to [email protected].
