SIR,
I have been disappointed in this town before, but never more so by its attitude towards the Dixton petition signing venues.
Earlier this month, a petition went out for the Dixton development and the shops where you could sign it were: the Riverside Hotel, the Albion fish and chip shop, Gamebox, and Wyesham post office and shop.
Where is the logic? I see why this has been done, to see who cares enough to go somewhere they may not go otherwise. But this is illogical.
I'm a young woman who doesn't buy fish and chips often enough to even think about going to one on a late working evening. I wouldn't see a point in visiting a hotel if I live in or around Monmouth.
Walking to Wyesham to buy a paper or otherwise would only be something I'd maybe think about on a sunny day. And yes, I would visit Gamebox because I enjoy playing, watching, and looking at games. But please tell me, why on earth would someone visit one of these places at random?
Yes, I can see some reason. Wyesham because people live around that area, the hotel because people stay there, the fish and chip shop because people get food there, Gamebox because of people who enjoy a good game.
But how would people who live around Monmouth know about these places to sign if they don't get the Beacon or go to one of these places? Why can we not have something to sign at Iceland, the King's Head, the post office (where a petition would be a great idea), or the Co-operative to name just a few places where people would happily go on a daily basis to shop, work, or otherwise.
Please, as a member of the public I urge someone to consider putting this petition into more places where people who don't buy the Beacon, or simply people who don't go to these shops, will find it easier and be able to sign if they wish.
