A PETITION to improve safety for pedestrians crossing a busy stretch of dual carriageway has gathered support from residents.
Motorists are generally unaware that this crossing point exists and continue to travel at high speeds when approaching or leaving the roundabout on the outskirts of the village. The speed of vehicles and volume of traffic can make it extremely dangerous for pedestrian attempting to cross the road to access the castle and surrounding footpaths.
The petition is currently available to sign in Raglan Post Office, but there are plans to make the petition available online.
The calls have been supported by Monmouth Assembly Member Nick Ramsay. He said: “I will be supporting the petition by local residents for signage to warn motorists of the designated pedestrian crossing on the A40 at Raglan and their call for a reduced speed limit on this stretch of the trunk road. Such measures would make it safer for pedestrians to cross the road and hopefully reduce the number of accidents at the Old Monmouth Road crossing.
“I understand that Raglan Community Council and County Councillor Penny Jones are supporting the call for road signage and I will be writing to the Welsh Government to request that these improved road safety measures are considered as soon as possible.”
