A 78-YEAR-OLD woman has been found dead in her home.
The body of Anne Jackson was discovered on Saturday evening (1st November) at her isolated smallholding outside Llantrisant, near the town of Usk.
Gwent Police were called to the address shortly before 7pm and upon arrival discovered the body.
A 48-year-old man was arrested at the scene and charged with murder on Monday evening.
Timothy Jackson of Sheffield, thought locally to be Mrs Jackson's step-son, appeared at Newport Magistrates Court yesterday (4th November) charged with one count of murder.
The cause of death has yet to be established and this will be determined following a post mortem examination.
Mrs Jackson's family have been informed and are currently being supported by family liaison officers.
Gwent Police is not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident, but if anyone does have any information or concerns they are asked to ring 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800555111 quoting log 504 01/11/14.
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Richard Williams said: "This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the family of the deceased at this very difficult time.
"Our investigation will establish exactly what happened and I can confirm that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident".
Mrs Jackson was a successful poet, who wrote under the pen name of Anne Cluysenaar. She was born in Belgium, and moved to Britain just before the outbreak of the Second World War.
She lectured in literature, linguistics and creative writing at the universities of Manchester, Dublin, Aberdeen, Lancaster, Birmingham and Cardiff.
Her collection of poems published this year was reviewed by The Guardian in May. Writer Carol Rumens said: "The poem's marvelling, half-humorous conclusion underlies the collection's overall philosophy of valuing the passing moment, but letting it go in peace."
