MEMBERS of South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFR) have been visiting all the South Wales fire stations in a four day, 293 mile fundraising challenge for the National Firefighters Charity.
The "Chiefs Peloton" with the chief of SWFR, Huw Jakeway, supported by other firefighters, ended Sunday at the Monmouth station after a 100 mile journey which started in Llantrisant at 8am making their way along the Vale into Cardiff, visiting all the stations there, onto Newport, Caldicot and Chepstow, and finally making Monmouth at about 6.30pm. They had lunch in Barry and tea in Duffryn.
The National Firefighters Charity relies on charitable donations to help firefighters get back to work after an injury or illness.
Monday 8th May saw them leave Monmouth and head off towards Abergavenny and Blaenavon, lunch in Cwmbran and then on to Ebbw Vale, an 80 mile trip.
They have been supported along the way by Changing Gearz, from Torfaen – a youth project that recycles old and unused bicycles and who have been providing maintenance on the bikes.
