The church at Llangattock Vibon Avel now has its tarmac path to the war memorial resurfaced, thanks to a trust fund.

The Maypole Hall Charity, the residue of the monies left over from the sale of the old Maypole Hall site, had been dormant for about 50 years, and its capital value has decreased dramatically over the years.

Trustee of the fund, Councillor Desmond Pugh of the Llangattock Vibon Avel Community Council, put it to a recent public meeting that this money should be used to benefit somewhere in the parish before the residue fell below a useful value: interest for the last year alone was a mere six pence. After public consultation, it was decided that the path at the church was a suitable candidate to benefit from a charitable donation, and coupled with a grant from Monmouthshire County Council, the work was completed last week.

Help with preparation of the site from Cllr Gerard Davies and Cllr Len Lane helped to keep the cost down.
