MADAM,

While I sympathise with Mrs Lee regarding her fine in the Glendower Street car park, looking at the photo in The Monmouthshire Beacon surely she cannot be surprised she was fined? It appears her car is straddling two car parking spaces. There is not a publicly run car park in Britain where she would not suffer the same fate. Indeed, in some she would have been clamped or towed away. Does Mr Evans really approve of one car using two parking bays?

We do not have enough parking in Monmouth and as far as I can see we are unable to increase it. I do hope Mr Evans is not going to push Monmouthshire County Council into increasing the parking bay size at the car park in question, thus cutting down the number of bays available. Waitrose started from scratch which was a massive advantage in providing some wide parking bays.

Parking will certainly get worse when the Post Office moves to its new site. It will be a question of walking up from Waitrose clutching parcels or paying 30p for the privilege of getting the Post Office from the top of the town. That is, of course, if you can find a space to park in.

I, for one, shall not be using the new Post Office. Luckily, I travel a lot and can use more conveniently sited Post Offices.

I think Mr Evans may have a lot more to worry about that perhaps he realises.
