SIR, Monnow Voice's recent neighbourhood policing team report states: "Those parking dangerously may expect their licence endorsed by three penalty points". It's not quite as simple as that. Firstly, motorists have as much right as anyone else to challenge the police version of events in the courts. Officers can't expect to be prosecutor, judge and jury. Secondly, licenced premises seem to be strangely exempt from the law. As in you can park all day outside the Monmouth Rugby Club, if you're on a repair job in spite of a blind corner, double yellow lines, and a road junction at this point. Last year the exterior of the Punch House was repainted and two vans were double-parked there daily, on double yellows and obstructing the bus-stop. Where were the police? Again, nowhere to be seen. Some consistency in this matter would be very welcome. Iain Crawford (Monmouth)
