OVERMONNOW is an often under-rated district of Monmouth, but the Green Dragon Inn hopes to rectify this historical imbalance on Wednesday 10th June.
David Harrison has been invited to give an illustrated and historical talk in the Lounge Bar at the pub from 7.30pm.
In 1888 St Thomas' Square, Overmonnow, was reorganised as parked carts caused difficulties for through traffic.
The ancient base stone had a new cross made much taller and four saints occupy the niches – Mary, Thomas, Michael and Cenhadlon.
Cottages in Drybridge Street were renovated too with wooden blocks used as decoration.
The blocks had once been used for printing wallpaper and can still be seen fixed to the front elevations of some properties.
Admission to the talk is by ticket only and costs £3, available at the Green Dragon.
