OVER 300 people have signed a petition protesting against proposals to site a livestock market at Little Castle Farm on the outskirts of the village.
At the inaugural, well attended meeting of Raglan Conservation Group, members put forward their reasons for opposing the proposal.
Stressing that they are not opposed to a new market but are against it being sited at Raglan, they say that to support a market, £80,000 would need to be generated from other activities on the site such as regular car boot sales and overnight parking for heavy transport. They fear that other associated buildings and businesses would quickly follow.
The Group point out that already the developers are seeking planning permission to virtually double the size of the site.
They are also concerned that the handling of waste material has not been satisfactorily defined, and that the density of traffic would increase through the village from the Chepstow area, creating a further hazard for school children.
A spokesperson said: "Raglan does not have the infrastructure to support such a complex, for example the parking of vehicles would be a severe and hazardous situation.
"Raglan has once again done exceptionally well in Villages in Bloom - it's a beautiful village, please help to keep it that way. "
The group next meets at 8pm on Monday, October 2nd at the Parish Room, Raglan.
