Ross Police ran an operation to combat antisocial behaviour, drinking and disorder in November and December 2007 - Operation Parlous Performance - during which they made 22 arrests. Inspector Alan Dattani explained to The Ross Gazette that there had been a general rise in crime from April 1st last year and survey of Peterchurch, Ross and Ledbury showed that the biggest rise was in Ross. A strategic review into violent crime and criminal damage identified the peak periods and the locations where antisocial behaviour in general, drinking and disorder were most prevalent. They decided to put in place Operation Parlous Performance, which involved not just the Ross police but officers from Hereford, a Road Policing Support team, Dog Handlers, Community Support Officers, the special Constabulary and the civilian antisocial driving team. Staffing levels during Operation Parlous Performance were up 4% and it concluded with a number of arrests and there was a significant level of reduction in the crime targeted. As well as the arrests there were 28 stop and search encounters and various cautions and warnings. Sixteen vehicles were issued with non- endorsable fixed penalties and 23 with endorsable fixed penalties and 3 vehicles were seized. Drivers have to pay at least £112 to have their car back after committing an antisocial driving offence. Ross Police is continuing to take action against the antisocial and the criminal elements in the town. Sergeant Alex Warner is planning another operation and Inspector Dattani told the Gazette that police officers are empowered to caution adults over 18 with who are behaving in an anti-social way on the spot, with a warning to vacate the location for 48 hours. Failing to observe could result in arrest and a fine of £2,500.
