A CROSS Ash school pupil has run his first 1km race with a brand new blade. Ollie Bauert, from Monmouth, was born with a condition that caused a deficiency in the growth of his left leg and has seen him wear a prosthetic leg since he was nine months old. Encouraged by the 2012 Paralympics, Ollie and his family were able to obtain funding for a blade designed to improve and enable running for prosthetic wearing individuals. Last Sunday (18th May), the active six-year-old took part in the Gwent Wildlife Trust's annual Race for Wildlife in Undy. Ollie was supported by his family and even a member of the GB Paratriathlon Squad, Andy Lewis. Mr Lewis, 31, is a fellow bladerunner and will be travelling to Rio for the next Paralympics in 2016.
