On a damp Friday evening volunteers from the Monmouth Off Street Project worked with Keep Wales Tidy to clear litter from the skate park at Rockfield Rd. The volunteers including adults, young skate park users and PCSO Joe Facchiano spent an hour clearing eight bags of litter. Most of it came from an area of bushes near the ramps, which the PCSO will be keeping an eye on. “Thank you to pupils of Overmonnow School and Monmouth comprehensive school for coming to help out,” he said.
Volunteer Hayden Holder was glad he brought his wellies so he could get into the ditch to reach rubbish after the heavy downpour shortly before they started.
The Project volunteers make an effort to keep the park litter free and a particular young volunteer who deserves great praise works with his dad every week to combat dropped rubbish. Esther Lacey of Monmouth Off Street Project said “We’ve got some people that really help keep the skate park tidy but what we need is some of the kids to not mess it up. So if people make sure they always put their litter in the bin it makes peoples job a lot easier keeping it clean.”
This September, Keep Wales Tidy is asking you to Be involved, Be proud and Be Tidy to help clean up Wales in one of the country’s biggest clean-up campaigns!
Be Tidy runs throughout the month of September and gives people of all ages the opportunity to volunteer and to get together to help them spruce up their local community.
The special guest for the campaign is Simon the Gull, who reminds people that they need to be responsible with their litter and food waste.
