MONMOUTH Rowing Club held its annual regatta on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th May.

More than 30 clubs attended with a huge number of crews racing along the River Wye over the course of the weekend.

Saturday saw boats racing over 1,500m while the Sunday crews raced over 750m.

A club spokesman said: "There's been some good competition at the regatta this year.

"We work hard to run a quality event, that's run to time, and we've been lucky with the weather this weekend. On a nice Sunday afternoon, with good rowing to watch, it doesn't get any better than that.

"It's been a big event. This year, we've had 164 crews race on Saturday, 236 on Sunday and on Saturday, we had Robin Williams (Team GB rowing coach and Old Monmothian) to present the prizes.

"There are rowers from 14 to 70 years old, which just shows the interest around."

Keep an eye out for next week's Beacon for confirmed results.
