MONMOUTH MP David Davies has organised a public meeting to discuss the proposed closure of Usk Sorting Office on Thursday, 4th November 2010 from 6pm-7:30pm at Usk Memorial Hall, Maryport Street, Usk.
"I have been inundated with correspondence from local residents and businesses following the announcement that mail for the Usk area (NP15) will be handled by Pontypool Delivery Office as from January 2011," said Mr Davies.
"Obviously, this will include letters sent to my constituency office in Maryport Street.
"I have received a written explanation of the reasons for the new operational arrangements from Royal Mail's Senior Welsh Affairs Manager, who argues that the move will ultimately result in a more consistent and reliable postal service.
"It would appear restricted working space at the Usk Delivery Office is the main driving force behind the decision to transfer to Pontypool. The good news is that there will be no job losses.
