SIR,

So, at last, the new occupants of Woolworths old site have arrived, but they have brought with them two things we neither need nor want.

The first is the visual aspect that the enormously long frontage will present to visitors as they arrive. Acres of posters, flyers, advertisements, etc, more suited to an urban shopping mall than an ancient Welsh town and adding nothing whatsoever to the charm of Agincourt Square. And the second? Have heard it? It's the hum! The massive generator needed to service Iceland's equipment has been sited outside the building at the rear and will be going 24/7 without a pause.

The noise can be heard halfway across Vauxhall Fields and of course up Castle Hill, for the Army and other residents to enjoy, as well as the flat dwellers and businesses in the Square. What we have been presented with are forms of pollution, as unwelcome as any carbon emission.
