SIR,
In response to Tom Moran's letter last week where he challenged my support of the 'no' vote, I actually think he has added weight to my argument that we are subject to multiple layers of bureaucracy and that transferring power to the Welsh Assembly amounts to no more than rearranging the deck-chairs on the Titanic.
This comes at a time when I hear that the Assembly is supporting an initiative to ban smoking in some outdoor places – is this what they consider as creating value for the tax payers of Wales?
Couple this with the crazy decisions still being made by our European representatives and endless indications in these pages that Monmouthshire County Council are apparently running around like headless chickens and we can start to see how our hard-earned money is wasted.
Of course we aren't going to change this overnight or even over a much longer period maybe stretching into years but we have to start somewhere to challenge those bureaucrats who seem intent on setting fire to our money and throwing it out of the window.
That means voting 'no' on 3rd March and sending a message to the elected representatives that they have to start acting in the interests of the voters and not their own.
Incidentally this letter is not intended to criticise Tom Moran, whose great work has rightly earned him an MBE.
